What Is USBwatch?

Most USB test programs cannot even start to work unless the peripheral device is already 95% working: i.e., only if the device works well enough to successfully pass the process of "enumeration," during which the PC host learns of the device's capabilities and decides whether the device is working well enough to be allowed to run. If the device has some problem with its USB descriptors, the PC will shut the device down and ignore it, but provide no information about why it chose to do so.
If that happens, now what do you do? It used to be that your only options were to either randomly change things until something worked, or to pay thousands of dollars for expensive USB bus analyzer tools. Now, there's a new, inexpensive tool to use: now there's USBwatch.
USBwatch is a test facility that allows you to see the USB traffic to and from your peripheral device, even during the enumeration process. This means that USBwatch can be used to diagnose problems that prevent the device from being recognized by the PC, so it can be tested with other USB test programs like AnyHID, or the certification programs from the USB Implementers Forum.
